WHO: Employees of University of Louisville Hospital

WHAT: UofL Hospital’s Annual Derby Bike Race

UofL Hospital employees will hear the call of “Riders up!” this Wednesday but instead of sleek thoroughbreds, they will mount children’s bikes for the Annual Derby Bike Race. Twenty-four teams have signed up to compete in the yearly event that enables hospital staff to take a break and enjoy some Derby-related fun.

Two riders, each from different teams, will race around  the “track” – a roundabout next to the hospital parking garage – and the teams with members posting the top three times will be recognized as the win, place and show teams. Prizes also will be awarded for the best “jockey silks”; teams are encouraged to design their own out of any material they choose. Ever mindful of safety, all participants will wear helmets, too. However, Derby hats for fans watching the race are optional.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 2, 2018: Team check-in is at 11:30 a.m.; races begin at noon

WHERE: The roundabout between the Ambulatory Care Building and the UofL Hospital Parking Garage in the 500 block of South Jackson Street, between East Chestnut and East Muhammad Ali Boulevard
