LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville Pediatrics professor V. Faye Jones, M.D., has co-authored an American Academy of Pediatrics statement underscoring the pediatrician’s role in family support. The statement was developed to address the changing needs of the family and promote its overall health.
The statement addresses the need for the pediatrician to take a more active role in the family and social dynamics that play a role in child development. It directs pediatricians to promote a healthy family environment for all children, to offer supportive information and to help the community support families.
“Healthy families produce healthy children,” Jones said. “Although child advocacy has always been our role, this statement reinforces to the parents that we want to be a partner in all aspects of their children’s health.”
