LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville will recognize four Louisville residents for their community endeavors April 17 during the UofL-Yearlings Club annual community reception.
The free, public Community Spirit Awards presentation and reception will be 4-6 p.m. at the Yearlings Club, 4309 W. Broadway.
The awards honor people who show a sustained commitment to improving the quality of life of community citizens and students and whose civic engagement and social responsibility extend beyond their expected service.
The 2016 Community Spirit Awards will go to:
· District 3 Metro Councilwoman Mary Woolridge
· UofL sociology assistant professor Derrick Brooms
· Cole’s Place owner and community activist John Cole III
· Community volunteer Tia Moore
The UofL/Yearlings Club discussion series runs monthly during the regular school year at the civic club. The series seeks to bring university faculty members and residents together to share expertise, discuss issues and forge bonds; the College of Arts and Sciences’ international, diversity and engagement programs office organizes the events.
The Yearlings Club, established in 1951, is devoted to promoting civic responsibility, community service and leadership development.
